Sago is the Asmat tribe staple food. The Asmat gain skills to produce sago for generations, the tradition that handed down from ancestors. The producing of sago take a place at sago forest near their village. Now, when the rice comes from outside the Asmat region as an alternative to replace their staple food, the Asmat still producing sago. Sago is a commodity that could be sold for their income. It is also a staple food that they can generate their own without requiring the cost of production other than labor and hard work because their sago forests are very extensive.
