Photographer’s remarks

Shrouded by mist, Gunung Halimun Salak National park in west Java, Indonesia is the largest remaining lowland and montane forest in Java Island as well as the home for endemic and endangered animals like Javan Gibbons (Hylobates moloch), Javan Hawk Eagle (Nisaetus bartelsi) and Leopard (Panthera pardus). Approximately 100,000 people live within GHSNP and depend on its natural resources for their livelihoods, and millions derive long-term benefits from forests such as watershed services.
