Photographer’s remarks

Shifting cultivation has been claimed as the main reason for deforestation in Vietnam by state. Fact is that shifting cultivation has been the main traditional livelihood of indigenous people in upland areas of Vietnam for a long time. People and nature live peacefully in the past. This picture shows two children collecting their rice in a swidden upland area of Thua Thien Hue province.
