Photographer’s remarks

A baby orangutan clings to its parents back, coming in for their daily feeding time at this sanctuary in northern Sumatra. Sumatran orangutans such as these used to be widespread throughout the island, however they are now listed as critically endangered, due largely to habitat loss from agricultural and oil palm expansion, (often illegal) logging, and human settlements. Orangutans rely on high quality primary forest to live and survive, and in the face of ongoing deforestation and forest degradation, their future hangs precariously in the balance.

i like the picture, but could be better if the little monkey wasn’t so blurred and take the focus out of the picture. also the focus is gone on the leaf at the from of the monkey itself relieving it from the main focus of the big monkey hmm overall lovely shot.

Thanks for your comment. I agree it would be great to have the baby in the foreground and/or more in focus however at the rate they were swinging it was hard getting a clear shot at all – and was quite hard taking one to produce a greater DOF :)
