Photographer’s remarks

What do you think about forests in Central Kalimantan? This 270 degrees panoramic photo is going to make you change your mind. That large tree would say, Where are my friends? What have you done to them?

It would be interesting to know more on this… How was the forest in Kalimantan in the past? Was it densely forested? Tropical forest? What happened? Why did it disappear?

Hi Peter, I was shocked when I went to Central Kalimantan last year. I expected forests there. But I was totally wrong. I drove for about 600km from Palangkaraya (Capital of Central kalimantan) to Lamandau Regency. I never saw forest, only palm oil tree. Uncontrolled forest logging and opening of the massive land for palm oil plantations have caused massive damage to the forests in Central Kalimantan.

I attach another angle of my picture. You will not find any forests. On the second/third image, we can only see palm oil plantation.
