Side event at SBSTA-44

Measuring national REDD+ performance for the promise of results-based finance

Wednesday 18 May 2016, 18:30 – 20:00, Bonn, Germany
Room: Kaminzimmer

The Paris Agreement placed forests at the heart of the climate change agenda and prompted national-level action on REDD+.

Join the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) and partners at this side event to discuss the practicalities of results-based finance for REDD+. CIFOR will present research findings on REDD+ performance at different scales, as well as the mechanisms of benefit-sharing, multi-level governance and land use incentives.

Climate experts and policy makers will be invited to comment on the findings, and discuss the risks and opportunities of results-based finance mechanisms for REDD+ implementation and performance.

Speakers and discussants will address the following questions:

  1. Understanding REDD+ on the ground: What and how much has changed? What are the opportunities and challenges?
  2. Power and politics in multi-level REDD+ policy arenas: What are the implications for effective policy and benefit sharing designs?
  3. How does this translate into effective, efficient and equitable finance for REDD+ performance?
