The Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) is a nonprofit, global research organization dedicated to advancing human well-being, environmental conservation and equity.
We conduct research that enables more informed and equitable decision making about the use and management of tropical and sub-tropical forest landscapes. We help policy makers and practitioners shape effective policy, improve the management of tropical forests and address the needs and perspectives of people who depend on forests for their livelihoods. Our multidisciplinary approach considers the underlying drivers of deforestation and degradation which often lie outside the forestry sector: forces such as agriculture, infrastructure development, trade and investment policies and law enforcement.
Data Management Specialist
The Data Management Specialist will interact with CIFOR scientists and partners and provide support for them on issues related to data access, management, analysis and the use of knowledge management tools. Supervise technical teams in producing quality data sets and lead data managers in research design, data collection, synthesis and analysis. Work on proposal development and funding of current active and new projects. He or she will play a key role in developing a centralized statistical services facility within CIFOR.
Duties and responsibilities
Reporting to the Principal Scientist in the Forests and Livelihoods Research team, the Data Management Specialist will be accountable for the following:
Lead the analysis of long-term household survey data from West and Central Africa.
Assist in the modeling of forest-based ecosystem services and global land conversion.
Provide statistical support services (research design, data management) for research projects within Component 3.
Manage the archiving of research data for CIFOR research projects. This includes both field data and associated documents (e.g. project proposals and reports, statistical analyses, etc.).
Work closely with other data management specialists within CRP6 to ensure alignment of the groups’ activity.
Education, knowledge and experience
PhD in relevant field.
Strong background in quantitative and statistical analysis.
Indication of good publication record and promising potential.
Has experience in managing large databases.
Has some familiarity with GIS/remote sensing analysis.
Excellent spoken and written English.

Terms and Conditions
This is an internationally recruited position.
Competitive remuneration in US dollars will be commensurate with skills and experience.
The appointment will be for a period of one year, inclusive 6 months probationary period, with possibility of extension contingent upon performance, continued relevance of the position and available resources.
The duty station will be in Bogor, Indonesia.
