The Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) is a nonprofit, global research organization dedicated to advancing human well-being, environmental conservation and equity.

We conduct research that enables more informed and equitable decision making about the use and management of tropical and sub-tropical forest landscapes. We help policy makers and practitioners shape effective policy, improve the management of tropical forests and address the needs and perspectives of people who depend on forests for their livelihoods. Our multidisciplinary approach considers the underlying drivers of deforestation and degradation which often lie outside the forestry sector: forces such as agriculture, infrastructure development, trade and investment policies and law enforcement.

Resource Development Coordinators (two positions)

Overview

The Resource Development Coordinator will support CIFOR’s global fundraising initiatives. The role will identify funding opportunities and coordinate the development of high quality, competitive grant applications to CIFOR’s top existing and prospective funders that are compelling. Primary objectives for the position will include: identifying new funding opportunities to support CIFOR’s work at a global level; supporting the development of key grant applications and timely review and submission of grants; integrating ‘funder’ intelligence and ensuring strategic alignment of CIFOR’s work with funder priorities and objectives in major grant applications; assisting with funder outreach and stewardship of major funders and prospects; and managing CIFOR’s resource development knowledge and information-sharing platform.

Duties and responsibilities

Rome-based

Proposal development and coordination

  • Identify and research new prospect funders for global campaigns or initiatives, and in-country initiatives in CIFOR hubs in Cameroon, Kenya and Peru;
  • Support research teams at all stages of concept note (CN)/proposal development, (including planning, drafting, editing, endorsement, submission, and securing agreements) of major (high- dollar and/or high-potential) grant applications;
  • Manage CIFOR’s grant application tracking system and monitor and report on application efforts. 

Strategy, analysis and reporting

  • Provide guidance and advice to tailor and match grant application submissions according to funder interests and priorities;
  • Analyze proposal development activity; track CIFOR’s performance and success rates to identify and address areas for improvement and continuity.

Funding partner relations

  • Coordinate with Communications, Outreach and Engagement (COE)  to collect and produce case studies and program stories for funder-centric communications and marketing materials;
  • Coordinate with resource development and partnerships team and staff on stewardship practices and cultivation activities for major funders and prospects in Europe, US and CIFOR hubs in Cameroon, Kenya and Peru.

Bogor-based

Proposal development and coordination

  • Identify and research new prospect funders for global campaigns or initiatives, and in particular in-country initiatives in Indonesia and relevant CIFOR countries in Asia;
  • Support research teams at all stages of CN/proposal development (including planning, drafting, editing, endorsement, submission, and securing agreements) of major (high- dollar and/or high-potential) grant applications.

Strategy, analysis and reporting

  • Maintain an effective knowledge-sharing and information portal in myCIFOR system for capturing and sharing information and managing funder intelligence to generate successful funding approaches and institutional understanding of CIFOR’s resource development;
  • Support the RDP team and the Resource Development and Partnerships Committee (RDPC) in reporting on progress in key areas of funding strategy and in preparing briefing materials for funder presentations and/or meetings.

Funding partner relations

  • Coordinate with RDP team and staff on stewardship practices and cultivation activities for major funders and prospects in Indonesia and the Asia region.

Education, knowledge and experience

• Master’s degree in political science, international relations, business and administration, environmental sciences or agricultural development studies;
• Minimum 5–7 years’ experience in fund development and/or related Project Coordinator role;
• An expert ability to translate complex and technical subject matter into plain English for a variety of funders;
• Experience identifying and resolving issues and conflicts within a project team;
• Ability to write clearly and persuasively to a wide range of different target audiences;
• Ability to appeal to different perspectives with diplomacy and tact;
• Experience with fundraising databases preferred;
• Complete English proficiency and competency in another language desirable, preferably French and/or Spanish.

Terms and Conditions

• These are internationally-recruited staff (IRS) positions. CIFOR offers competitive remuneration in USD, commensurate with skills and experience;
• The appointment is for a 2-year period, inclusive of a 9-month probationary period, with the possibility of extension contingent upon performance, continued relevance of the position and available resources;
• The duty station will be CIFOR HQ in Bogor, Indonesia and Rome, Italy;
• This is a re-advertised position. Previous candidates need not reapply.
